Project Appraisal
Fair Isle Bird Observatory Feasibility Study and Business Plan. In the first instance, A B Associates carried out an options appraisal followed by a feasibility study examining proposals to build a new bird observatory or Fair Isle. For the next stage we worked in conjunction with an architect to produce plans for the new building. Following this, A B Associates developed a funding package for the project as well as carrying out a socio economic impact analysis and producing a business plan for the operation of a new facility.
Burravoe Community Development. We are currently carrying out a feasibility study and developing a business plan for new community facility for Burravoe, a small community in the south of the island of Yell with a population aroung 180.
Foula Electricity Scheme. This work involved helping to develop proposals to install solar panels to power the isle of Foula to the west of the Shetland mainland. Foula has a population of just 31 people however due to its remoteness, a school, shop and post office still survive on the isle. The project involved seeking funding, preparing the case for funding and submitting applications e.g. for ERDF grant. The project was subject to many sensitive negotiations and discussions due to the complexity of the project and the environmental issues that arose.
Food and Drink Park Study. This involved a feasibility study and business plan for the creation of a new Food and Drink Park in Shetland.
