Intellectual Asset Management

Intellectual Assets (IA) represent codified or recorded knowledge which belongs to an organisation or individual that have a market value. IA are frequently the cornerstone of a company’s value and strength; they encompass knowledge, market intelligence, trade secrets, intellectual property, accreditations, a company brand/logo, trademarks, company culture, patents and much more. When intellectual assets are protected and safeguarded, they can help to create a distinctive identity.

Organisations are now operating in an era where their intangible assets provide them with greater competitive advantage than premises, land, labour or hard graft. Hence, organisations operating today need to give greater consideration to where their value lies.

We are contracted by the Intellectual Assets Centre (IAC) in Glasgow to provide advice on Intellectual Asset Management to companies throughout Scotland, organising and facilitating workshops and one to one meetings. The IAC is the first organisation of its kind in the UK, Europe or anywhere, that helps companies value and protect intellectual assets properly.

To date, we have run two programmes on behalf of the IAC, one targeted at IT companies, and the second at Food and Drink and Tourism companies. The projects have involved attending events and setting up and running workshops to inform companies about their IA and how to manage it. We have also undertaken in depth, 1 to 1 analysis of a company’s IA and produced an action plan on steps needed to protect and manage IA.
